Off-Piste - French for off track
Simply put it is a memorable name. South Australia, and more so the Fleurieu Peninsula, Kangaroo Island and McLaren Vale are built on memorable names. Any suggestion that off-piste has more than one meaning should be smiled at, of course it does. The French co-discovered the Fleurieu Peninsula off-piste, naming the geographical wonderland after French Explorer, Charles-Pierre de Fleurieu. We are passionate about encouraging visitors to continue the tradition of intrepid exploration of our beautiful region, which strives to cultivate curiosity, develop interest and share our story.
Benjamin Neville is a Fleurieu Peninsula-based local who has worked extensively to create a holistic 4WD touring experience for the region. The main objective: showing you his home grown, local adventures by experiencing the regional landscapes, wildlife, food and wine offerings - off piste. An ambassador for the outdoors, Ben has previously worked at the world exclusive resort, Longitude 131 based at Ayers Rock Resort (township of Yulara) in the Northern Territory, Central Australia. Working with a dedicated guiding team, Ben shared his knowledge and passion with guests, while they were treated to a desert-touring spectacle visiting in and around the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. He was also a member of the Yulara Fire Brigade gaining invaluable knowledge and training toward first aid and critical vehicle maintenance that is taken very seriously at all times on tour.
Ben also worked at the ski resort of Falls Creek, Victoria where he was employed to assist with the exclusive helicopter service between Mt Hotham and Falls Creek providing a thrilling experience deep in the Victoria’s snowy mountains. He has been fortunate enough to tackle some of Australia’s toughest 4WD tracks on group convoys and personal expeditions that include the Oodnadatta Track, Lake Eyre, Strzelecki, the Simpson Desert, the Tanami, Finke River, Mereenie Loop, Anne Beadell Highway, Flinders Ranges, Gawler Ranges and the Old Tele Track, Cape York.
In 2005 Ben completed a BSc Hons in Geography at King's College London University. During his 10-year stint in London, he had the opportunity to extensively travel through continental Europe and North Africa pursuing his hunger to explore. A keen trekker, Ben completed walks through a number of mountain ranges including Poland and Slovakia’s Tatra Mountains, Romania's Carpathian Mountains, Atlas Range in northern Morocco, the Italian Dolomites, Swiss and French Alps, Southern Germany and Tirol's highlands in Austria. Overseas trips include visits to the USA, British Columbia, Vancouver Island, Mexico, Egypt and Russia.

The choice of 4WD was not difficult. Toyota have a reputation that exceeds when it comes to manufacturing strong and safe 4WD vehicles that deliver. Ben has grown up with a range of Toyota off-road vehicles thanks to his father, Patrick Neville who worked with the global car manufacture giant for over 15 years as PR Manager. Through the years Ben has taken Toyotas through the harshest Aussie environments where has gained invaluable understanding of the machines' capabilities and critical mechanics. The Off Piste 4WD-touring vehicle was originally purchased from Peter Kittle Toyota, Adelaide who specialise in preparing 4WD vehicles for the harshest terrain including mining vehicles that battle against South Australia's forbidding red centre. All regular servicing and safety inspections are carried out at their award-winning, RAA approved workshop. In December 2012, the tour vehicle's interior was stripped out and customised adding extra comfort and safety for passengers.
